Terms explained

Process design
The design of how a plant works: its flows, pressures and temperatures, and the equipment the process needs.
Detailed engineering
The stage that turns a basic design into the drawings, calculations and specifications needed for procurement, fabrication and construction.
Instrumentation
The instruments that measure and control a process, such as pressure, temperature and flow transmitters, analysers and control valves.
Skid
A steel base frame on which equipment is assembled and tested in the workshop, and then transported to site as one unit.
